It does not need external energy to delay its contacts, that energy is stored in the timer, usually as compressed air or spring tension. It is important to note that even though the timer coil has been disconnected from its source of power, it still performs its timing function. Once pressed, the M1 contactor and the off-delay timer will be de-energized, and their contacts will revert to their original state.įor the motor starter, this will happen instantly, but the timed contacts associated with the timer coil will have a delay of five seconds before they open, during which time motor M2 will continue to run. Once both motor starters are engaged, the motors will continue to run until the stop button is pressed. This is because the normally open contacts associated with the off-delay coil will change their state instantly when the coil is energized. If the start button is pressed both motors M1 and M2 will start instantly. The above switching arrangement will allow two motors to be controlled from a single pushbutton station.

These timed contacts are in series with motor starter M2. In parallel with M1 is a time-delay relay (TR) who’s normally open, timed to open (NOTO) contacts identify it as an off-delay timer. The above circuit shows a standard three-wire circuit for a single-motor starter M1. That’s why this feature is optional.Circuits 41 Sequence Control: Off-Delay Definite sequence control off-delay

Sometimes at low operating voltages keeping the full supply voltage is more important than having a polarity protection. If you are operating this switch at low voltages (below 3-4v) you may want to keep the Polarity Protection disabled because the Schottky diode will have about 0.4v Voltage Drop. To enable the onboard ON-button and Polarity Protection feature – you will need to cut/drill out the corresponding links on the PCB – see the diagram for details. Therefore some form of cooling or a heatsink will be required. If operating this switch at full 2A current the existing onboard mosfet transistor will get rather hot. The device runs quite cool at 1A current. 20 – 30A MOSFET transistors are available It also incorporates a Polarity-Protection feature so when the batteries (or DC supply) are inserted wrong way – it will not damage the device.Įasily modified & customised… There are provisions on this PCB for installing a bigger capacitor for even longer time delays and installing a more powerful MOSFET if you need to control higher amperage load current.

Very Small 13x48mm Board ( AA Battery Footprint),įits into a AA battery slot ! which is very convenient for building it into AA battery packs etc. Time delay will depend on a supply voltage, with higher voltages = longer delay. Use it in any devices that require to operate for a preset amount of time. Ideal as a functional module to be incorporated into your next project ! Very simple and highly customizable. Push the button and it will stay ON for a preset amount of time, then will turn-OFF by itself.
